Polyaziridine

Polyfunctional aziridine are very versatile molecules used to improve both physical and chemical properties for both aqueous and non-aqueous formulations in coatings, inks and adhesive applications.

  • High density crosslinking

  • Room temperature curing

  • Formaldehyde, isocyanate free products

  • MDA free materials

  • Low dosage formulations

Effects of polyaziridine concentration on tack, adhesion and cohesion

  • Improves water and chemical resistance

  • Improves mechanical resistance (rubbing, scuffing, abrasion, wear, black heel mark, fingernail mark)

  • Increases cohesive strength

  • Efficient tack modifier

Applications may run at room temperature or can be heat curing, for both aqueous and solventborne systems, adapting to the existing dispersing possibilities and working pot lives, handling and addition.

  • The crosslinker is added to the formulated product just prior to use. It is a two-part system, not a onepart system.

  • Typical addition levels range from 1% to 3% to finished formulations. The optimal amount in order to achieve the desired end results it is best determined by experimentation.

  • The product should be added slowly and under good agitation, neat or premixed into a solution. If added in a solution, a solvent without active hydrogen is ideal. Water may be used, as long as the pre diluted product is added to the system immediately.

  • Once added, typical systems will have a pot life of 12-24 hours to 4-8 hours, depending on the specific type, temperature and pH. Testing for the pot life length of each system is always recommended to achieve the desired properties.

Molecular Formula : C20H33N3O7
Appearance : Slight yellow liquid with amine-like odor
Aziridine Functionality : 3.3
Density (at 25ºC) : 1.15-1.17 g/ml
Viscosity (at 25ºC) : < 4000 cp

Ethylene imine polyurea based bi-functional agent that may be formulated as 25% active matter waterborne dispersions and used as a crosslinker for aqueous coatings, inks, and adhesives to promote both physical and chemical properties.

The aziridine end groups can react with active hydrogen as found on carboxyl groups of acrylic emulsions or polyurethane dispersions.

As a waterborne product, the product is easy to mix with aqueous bases targeted to heat curing 2K processes. 80ºC are usually enough to start the crosslinking reaction.
